Tour Lake Wanaka

Wānaka town is beautiful — but the real magic of this place is found out on the water, away from the cafés and car parks, drifting between islands with nothing but mountains, birdsong, and clear alpine air around you. That's exactly what our lake tours are designed to give you.

Whether you're after a peaceful half-day escape or a full-day adventure exploring the far reaches of Lake Wānaka, we'll take you somewhere most visitors never get to see. No fishing required — just good company, stunning scenery, snacks on board, and the kind of tranquility that's impossible to find on shore.

Join a shared tour and meet fellow travellers, or book a private charter for your group and have the whole boat to yourselves. Either way, the experience is unhurried, personal, and genuinely special.

Full day Lake Tour

$595

Per Adult

A full day on Lake Wānaka is something you simply don't forget. With six hours to explore, we venture far beyond the parts of the lake most visitors ever see — reaching remote bays, uninhabited shorelines, and the kind of wild, silent places that remind you why people travel to the other side of the world to come here.

We'll stop at islands for a wander, drop anchor in sheltered coves for a swim, and drift through mountain reflections so clear you'd swear the sky goes all the way to the bottom. Lunch is served on board, and the day unfolds naturally — guided by good weather, good company, and wherever the lake takes us.

This is the tour for people who want to truly slow down and soak in one of New Zealand's most breathtaking natural environments. Come as you are — no gear, no experience, no agenda needed.

Minimum 2 guests. Solo travellers welcome — book two seats to secure the trip.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the half day and full day tour?

+

The half day visits Ruby Island and Stevensons Island and gives you a brilliant three hour introductionto the lake. The full day goes further — adding Mou Waho to the itinerary and covering the full length ofthe lake, with all five islands coming into view along the way. If you have the time, the full day is thecomplete experience.

Do I need any experience or fitness level?

+

None whatsoever. The lake tours are relaxed by nature — you'll spend most of the time on the boattaking in the scenery, with optional stops to explore on foot or swim. Suits all ages and fitness levelscomfortably.

Is fishing involved?

+

No — the lake tours are purely scenic. If you'd like to combine fishing with your tour, get in touch todiscuss a custom private option.

Can we swim?

+

Yes, and we'd encourage it. Lake Wanaka is cold, crystal clear, and unlike any water you've swum inbefore. Beach and island stops give you the opportunity — bring a towel and a sense of adventure.

Can we explore the islands on foot?

+

Yes. There's time at each island stop to get off the boat and explore. On the full day, Mou Wahoinvolves a short walk to reach Arethusa Pool — well worth the effort and suitable for most fitness levels.

What's included?

+

Snacks and drinks are provided on both tours. Lunch is included on the full day. The McLay 651provides shelter when needed, with an open back deck when the weather plays along.

What's the weather policy?

+

We'll contact you by 6pm the evening before if there are any concerns about conditions, with a final callby 7am on the day. If we cancel due to weather you'll receive a full reschedule or refund. Light rain andovercast skies are not cancellation conditions — the lake can be stunning on a moody day.

Is it suitable for children?

+

Absolutely. The lake tours are one of the best things you can do with kids in Wanaka — islandexploration, swimming, wildlife, and a boat ride all in one. Life jackets are available on request in allsizes. Under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Can we bring a dog?

+

Dogs are welcome on private charters by prior arrangement. Please mention it at the time of booking.

Do I need a fishing licence?

+

No — no fishing licence is required for the lake tours.
